Methods:
1. Conduct Michigan Forest Inventory (MiFI) to identify and delineate landscape features on state lands administered by the Parks and Recreation Division. This process will involve:
a. Delineating stand boundaries using desktop GIS software and/or the web-based MiFI interface.
b. Conducting field inventories to ground-truth stand delineations, assign landcover classifications, and record data on wildlife habitat variables and vegetation. In addition, ecologists will watch for and note any evidence of hemlock wooly adelgid or other forest pests observed incidentally while surveying stands.
c. Assign one natural community type to each stand using the official MNFI natural community name.
d. Assign relative quality scoring (EcoScore), ranked from 1-5.
e. Provide recommendations for ecological restoration and biodiversity stewardship.
