Site Overview: 
Prob. the most studied terrestrial site at UMBS. A mature bog, white cedar predominating (see Gates S. P. 1942, 9:227-228). Plots 6 and 7 of the UMBS Fifty Year Plots are located within Reese's Swamp.

Site History: 

Conversation with Verna Roberts by Mark Paddock and BVK during the time her property on N end of Burt Lake was being subdivided and sold: Her father, Mr. Roberts, bought the property in 1943 from Bill Reese (and Mr. Kriss?) from Lima, Ohio. Verna described them as "gamblers." Mr. Reese lived in the Ottawa Hotel (Cheboygan) over winter while his Indian wife lived at the cabin (the one farthest W).

BVK (2010): that cabin is gone now.
