Abstract

Michigan once had about 11 million acres of wetlands. Today, affected by dredging, filling, and natural evolution, only a little over 3 million acres remain. When considering preservation of our remaining Michigan wetlands, it is helpful to understand what wetlands are, why they are important, andhow they can be protected.
