Effects of elevated CO2 on plants, herbivores, and natural enemies

Project Abstract:
A series of studies to determine how elevated CO2 affects the nutritional quality and chemical defenses of plants (legumes and non-legumes), and how these changes affect higher trophic levels.

Methods:
Plants are germinated in the UMBS greenhouse and transferred to my CO2 chamber array. Nutritional quality is determined by the mass spec, chemical defenses by a variety of means, including the HPLC in my lab in Lakeside. Insects are fed plant material in environmental chambers in my pole barn.
