Consequences of climate change on crayfish ecology and behavior.

Project Abstract:
Current projects (A1FI) have the climate of Northern Michigan rising about 8 degrees Celsius in the next 100 years. This change could have drastic effects on the local ecology and species make up of the region, in both aquatic and terrestrial habitats. Crayfish being cold blooded will be significantly affect, and since they are a keystone species in most aquatic systems it is important to understand how a rise in water temperature could effect their populations. To judge this the native species O. virilis and the invasive O. rusticus , the two major species in the region, were subjected to warmer water temperatures, then allowed to fight for dominance to see how the temperature changes effect their dominance and aggression.
