Climate Change in Great Lakes Forests: Forest Canopy Resistance to Disturbance

Project Abstract:
Forest canopy resistance to disturbance along a severity gradient. Canopy structural response quantified by NDVI, LAI, and gap fraction. %N, %C, and chlorophyll concentration were determined through determination of a mathematical relationship.

Methods:
Hemispherical photos were taken at five locations per subplot once a week over the course of the first growing season following disturbance. Images were analyzed for structural data using the WinScanopy program. Leaves were obtained using the shotgun sampling method and chemically analyzed using MSGC and HPLC.
