Abstract

Time budgets are presented as a technique for overcoming the problems of observing geographically dispersed recreation populations. Benefits and costs of time budgets as compared with alternative data gathering approaches are discussed. Findings from a time budget analysis of the daily activity patterns of residents or a rural, vacation-oriented setting are presented to illustrate the value of time budgets.
