Abstract | Collections of 246 food items from 163 snakes of seven species are detailed. The most substantial records are for Thamnophis s. sirtalis, T. s. septentrionalis and Lampropeltis t. triangulum. The most basic groups of food items delineated are: for T. sirtalis, amphibians and earthworms (with an apparent distinct difference between New York and northern Michigan); for T. sauritus, small anuran amphibians; for Storeria occipitomaculata, small slugs; for Diadophis punctatus, small salamanders and earthworms; for Opheodrys vernalis, lepidopteran larvae, orthopterans and lycosid spiders; for L. triangulum, chiefly small mammals, with some young birds and reptiles. |
