Abstract | This monograph reports on a study of a group of people whose actions have been influential in shaping the growth and development of a popular recreation area–Cheboygan and Emmet counties, located at the northern tip of Michigan’s lower peninsula. Specifically, the study taps the thoughts, expectations, and activities of permanent and seasonal residents in these counties. In recent years, both counties have experienced rapid population growth as well as a significant influx of seasonal visitors. The peace and tranquility of the region, its abundance of lakes and rivers, and its recreational opportunities all have attracted people. If these regional attractions are to remain unaltered by the new growth and development which is anticipated, government officials and area residents must manage the environment with increased skill and sophistication. This monograph is intended to aid in that process. |
