1) In June 1965, preliminary work was done on the lower Phycomycetes of the Huron Mountain Lakes, especially those utilizing pine pollen. The results indicate that one species of Rhizophydium was found characteristically with a high frequency. This species is marked by having punctate sporangia and punctate resting spores. 2) Some lakes showed high frequency, some a medium one and others a low level of lower fungi. It seems to be true that lakes at different places but of the same character show nearly the same frequency of lower fungi. 3) The quotient number of findings/number of samples does not corresond with the number of species found. 4) These findings and their value are discussed for future investigations in the Huron Mountain Region. The value of studying the Huron Mountain Club region as representatove of an area almost completely unmodified by man and his activities is pointed out.
