Abstract
  1. The study of the life history and certain aspects of the ecology of Elliptio complanatus was undertaken for the purpose of accomplishing the following objectives: (a) To discover the details of the different stages in the life cycle of the mussel. (b) To investigate as many varied ecological situations as possible to which Elliptio complanatus was exposed, both naturally and experimentally. (c) To gain significant information which might be of value in dealing with mussels which are of greater economic importance.
