Abstract

Examining collections of the peat moss, Sphagnum, one is likely to find capsules containing small (11-13 um), alete, "reticulate" spores as well as capsules containing larger (20 um and more), trilete, granulary-ornamented Sphagnum spores. The purpose of this study was to investigate the ultrastructure of the spores, giving special attention to the ornamentation and its taxonomic significance.
