Abstract
  1. The objectives of the investigation were to determine which species of chilopods and diplopods occur in Michigan, to chart their distribution within the state, to segregate the factors governing that distribution, to discover the salient features of the life cycles of the more abundant species, and to record through direct field observations and laboratory experiments the inter- and intra-community relations of these animals with the rest of the biota. 2. Field work was begun in the summer of 1948 and was continued through October, 1951. Collecting trips were made in all eighty-three counties of Michigan. 3. Four hundred sixty-five new state locality records for centipeds and 707 new state locality records for millipeds were established. 4. Twenty-four species of centipeds, representing eight families and eighteen genera are now known to occur in the state; twelve are here reported for the first time from the state. 5. Thirty-one species of millipeds, representing sixteen families and twenty-six genera are now known to occur in the state; sixteen are here reported for the first time.
