Entomologists interested in the fauna of Michigan have long felt the need of a list of the dragonflies of the state. The first record of Michigan Odonata was published by Hermann Hagen in 1875, in his "Synopsis of the Neuroptera of North America," in which he records 19 species of dragonflies rom Detroit and Lansing. The first local list of this group for Michigan, enumerating 44 species from Corunna, Shiawassee County, was publsihed by D. S. Kellicott, in 1894. Since tha time seven regional lists have appeared, and a few general works giving "Michigan" under habitat data (see bibliography). The present list contains 42 genera and 130 species. Of these, 120 species are recorded from my examination of 4,300 specimens, of which 2,360 were males, 1,260 females, and 680 naiads. The records include 51 of the 83 counties, rather evenly distributed over the state, making the collection a fairly representative one. The material for the list was obtained, in the main, from the Division of Insects, Museum of Zoology, University of Michigan. The naiads, or immature forms, were collected by the Division of Fishes, of the same museum, and represent an excellent collection of running water forms. Ten of the species have been recorded on the lbasis of literature references only, as I was unable to locate the specimens.
