Site History:

Beach (1956): It has a temporary outlet (to the Ocqueoc River) which functions only in seasons of high water.  During the earlier lumbering history of northern Michigan, logs were stored in the lake.  The outlet was dammed to raise the water level and the dam removed at timely intervals to increase the flow of water and facilitate floating the logs downstream. As a result of these lumbering activities, much bark has accumulated on the bottom, and, consequently, the water is very highly colored. The lake has a surface area of 160 acres.
